The Chair in Strategic Sourcing and Procurement, launched in 2017, was a collaboration between the Louvain School of Management (LSM) and Kronos Group, to create a unique procurement specialization in Belgium.
Our shared objective was to promote research and education in procurement and transform the procurement function into a value-generating, strategic profession.
Procurement management activities, linked to supplier development and monitoring, are becoming increasingly strategic in the management and development of a company. The rapid development of new technologies and the tighter deadlines imposed for the introduction of new products have only reinforced this trend.
A lack of knowledge and training opportunities in the field have also led to challenges in the recruitment and performance of procurement executives.
Until now, the field of procurement did not have an exclusive curriculum in Belgium. As a result, many companies willing to hire procurement professionals had to recruit internationally.
Kronos Group, as a leader in procurement services in the Benelux market, wanted to alter this pattern and create local training opportunities for procurement experts.
The chair programme consists of 90 hours of courses in strategic sourcing and procurement. Courses are carried out in English and are currently open to 150 students in business engineering, business management, and CEMS.
